Of course, getting ahead of the game is never going to be easy; it usually requires investors to take counter-intuitive positions and maintain their conviction at exactly the time when the world around is bemoaning the trials and tribulations of the stock in question.

Market cap and value are rarely one and the same, especially in the short term, and for value investors such valuation gaps can present an opportunity.
Right now we feel such an opportunity exists with Range Resources plc (LON:RRL ASX:RRS) and in this rather timely podcast interview, Pete Landau Managing Director, talks to MiningMaven about all the elements of the business and the value generated to date.

“Value Proposition” is a term often used in presentations by Peter Landau, Executive Director of Range Resources. The word value can be defined as “a fair price or return, worth in usefulness or importance”, and proposition “a proposal or topic presented for consideration”.
In the context of Range Resources and as a result of the various deals pursued by the company over the years, investors have certainly been presented with an impressive “Value Proposition”. Of course patience is indeed an investors’ virtue and we are now starting to see the inherent value in these deals completed, which in turn is starting to translate into asset value and share price appreciation.
“Patience and Faithfulness” (in the words of Vincent Van Gogh!)
Building a successful company in the small cap oil and gas sector is never going to be easy, and any success will always be hard earned.
In an inherently “high stakes” business, much of that success will come from management’s ability to manage and mitigate risk, whilst leveraging opportunity as it presents itself.

In January 2010 we wrote our initial Value Proposition for Range Resources (LON:RRL ASX:RRS). Our focus at that time was on the transformational news that drilling at the North Chapman Ranch oil & gas prospect in Texas had led to a commercial oil and gas find.
Last week Range Resources (ASX: RRS) (AIM:RRL) released its highly anticipated update from Texas advising that an Independent Reserves Report from Lonquist & Co LLC confirmed a "Significant Find" at North Chapman Ranch Field. This was then followed up with the news of spudding of the Russell Bevly #1.

In our Value Proposition on 6th January we identified the main areas of the Range Resources' business, namely Texas USA, Georgia and Puntland Somalia. The potential was significant and we likened the Range scenario to a Cinderella story, always working hard in the background and finally it seemed, able to go to the ball!
